great entry level DSLR

Strengths: small and light, price, in body anti-shaking, water-proof

Weakness: focus problem in low light

My only complain is the focus problem in low light, it seems it never gets good focus in dark, even with flash. Another problem is the jpeg engine. There's always some hot pix when jpeg is generated in low light or high ISO. but if the picture is converted from RAW by software, the hot pix is gone.

Strengths: Big LCD, shake reduction, weather seal, dust removal features

Weakness: Little bit slow in multi-shot mode.

I upgraded to this camera from Pentax *ist DL. Just couldn't resist. I like shake reduction feature - it helps when I shoot using zoom lenses. Weather seal gives additional piece of mind. It is little bigger and heavier then *ist, but bigger screen alone worth it. I think this is best camera for the money. K200D: The best value in an entry digital SLR. There is another choice besides the CaNikon.

After much consideration however the choice is very obvious. In this price range (~$570 with the 18-55mm kit lens after rebate at the time of this review) there is absolutely no competition.

To get a body that is close to the K200D build quality with weather sealing from Canon or Nikon is roughly 2x the cost. Add to it the in-body shake reduction/image stabilization (not available on the CaNikon), a Spot meter (not available on a Canon unless one steps up to the XSI or better) and a kit lens with a metal mount and a real focus ring with Pentax unique quick shift focus feature, there is just nothing that can come close to the K200D.

Additionally, Pentax has probably the best prime lens lineup of any manufacturer. The FA liited (77mm, 43mm, 31mm) and the DA limited (70mm, 40mm, 35mm, 21mm) lenses especially... No one has a compact, lightweight pancake lineup that Pentax has.

Pentax... there is a choice.

Best camera i've ever used!!

Strengths: Solid, great pictures, easy to use, great quality images, body is sealed, sturdy, and best of all SHAKE REDUCTION BUILT INTO THE CAMERA!!

Weakness: none!! so good for the price

This is an awesome camera, GET IT while there is a rebate going on too!! Image quality is awesome and so is the body.

Weakness: NONE!!!

I upgraded to this camera from the K100D, and it is well worth the price difference. Larger LCD is great. Very solid build compared to other cameras in this price range. Several new features added along with the K10D's 10 MP sensor. Perfect first DSLR. Highly recommended.
